Fraction Calculator
This fraction calculator adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides fractions and mixed numbers, and simplifies the result. It also converts a decimal or percentage into a fraction, so the fraction calculator doubles as a decimal to fraction calculator and a mixed number calculator, with the result shown as a fraction, mixed number, decimal, and percentage.

What the fraction calculator shows
Fractions need common denominators to add or subtract and careful flipping to divide. The fraction calculator does that work and reduces the answer to its simplest form. Enter two fractions to calculate the fraction result in one step. Results come back as a fraction, a mixed number, a decimal, and a percentage, and a separate field converts any decimal or percentage into a fraction.
Fraction calculator rules
The result is simplified by dividing top and bottom by their greatest common factor. Mixed numbers are converted to improper fractions first: 2 1/3 = 7/3. Decimals are converted with continued fractions, so repeating decimals such as 1.16666666667 become 7/6.
Fraction calculator examples
As conversions, 0.375 is 3/8, 62.5% is 5/8, and 1.5 is 3/2.
How to use the mixed number calculator
Enter the first fraction, choose add, subtract, multiply, or divide, and enter the second fraction. For mixed numbers such as 2 1/3, put the whole number in its own field. To convert instead, type a decimal like 0.375 or a percentage like 62.5% in the conversion field and leave the rest as they are.
Reading the decimal to fraction calculator result
The fraction is always in lowest terms. The mixed number separates the whole part, and the decimal and percentage show the same value in other forms. Very long decimals are matched to the closest simple fraction, which is usually the one you want.
When to use the fraction and decimal calculator
- Checking fraction homework with the fraction calculator
- Converting a decimal measurement to inches and fractions
- Scaling recipes with mixed numbers
- Turning a percentage into a fraction
Common fraction calculator mistakes
- Adding numerators and denominators directly. 1/2 + 1/3 is not 2/5.
- Forgetting to flip when dividing.
- Leaving a zero denominator.
Tips for accurate results
- Simplify at the end, not halfway.
- Convert mixed numbers before multiplying.
- Check the decimal form for a quick sanity test.
Fractions and percentage conversions
A fraction, a decimal, and a percentage are three ways of writing the same number. To turn a fraction into a percentage, divide and multiply by 100: 5/8 is 0.625, or 62.5 percent. To turn a percentage into a fraction, divide by 100 and simplify, which the conversion field does for you. Exam scores are often given as fractions of the total, and the percentage of marks calculator turns them into a percentage.
Fraction to decimal calculator and back
Every fraction becomes a decimal by division, but not every decimal ends: 1/3 is 0.333 repeating. That is why the decimal to fraction direction uses an approximation method that recognises repeating patterns.

Fraction Calculator FAQ
How do I add fractions with different denominators?
Cross-multiply to a common denominator: a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd, then simplify.
How do I divide fractions?
Multiply by the reciprocal of the second fraction.
How do I convert a decimal to a fraction?
Type it in the conversion field; 0.375 becomes 3/8.
How do I enter a mixed number?
